South Point Sunset Tour

A 20 mile round trip from the shore of Silver Lake through the village of Ocracoke with stops at the Ocracoke Lighthouse, sunset viewing at South Point on the CHNS beach via Ramp 72, and back through the village of Ocracoke to the British Cemetery before returning to Silver Lake.

South Point, Sunset Tour, Ocracoke Beach, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, features the Ocracoke Lighthouse, sunset views at South Point CNHS Beach via Ramp 72 and more!  Following a visit to the Ocracoke Lighthouse, this tour will proceed along the beautiful salt marshes of South Point Road (Ramp 72) and along the beach of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore to the Southern end of Ocracoke (South Point) or as close as bird and sea turtle nesting closures will allow to witness the sunset over Pamlico Sound and the not-so-distant Portsmouth Island. The natural history of the beach including how barrier island are formed, types of wildlife (sea turtles, marine mammals, fishes, birds) that make the beach their home or territory, and other natural features of the beach will be explained. Following the Sunset, the tour will return to the shores of Silver Lake following a stop at the British Cemetery.

This tour includes a fully narrated tour of the historic village of Ocracoke including disembarkation stops of the Ocracoke Lighthouse and the British Cemetery. Historic homes and other sites will be indicated as well as the history and present day habits of the people & places that make Ocracoke unique.
